Dar es Salaam city tour with cruise ship Oceania Nautica passengers

We are always very honoured to welcome cruise ship passengers to our country.

On the 2nd January 2018 we hosted passengers from Oceania Nautica, which docked in Dar es Salaam port at 8am on that day. It is a beautiful luxurious ship, with passengers from around the world – America, Israel, Australia and Europe. It had been 4 days since they last saw land, so the passengers were very happy to come ashore for our half day city tour of Dar es Salaam! (We want to say a special thank you to one of the passengers, Larry Conover and his wife Pat, who did a wonderful job in coordinating the tour group prior to departing the ship!).

After boarding the buses on the dockside, we left the harbour and our experienced tour guides (Marius, Mr Vumbi and Mary) began sharing their knowledge of our fascinating city including the: Mnazi mmoja Uhuru torch, National Library and the Village Museum of Makumbusho.

Before reaching Makumbusho, we drove down the newly expanded road, which was the first project our present Tanzania president John Magufuli did, by cancelling the annual national celebration of Independence day! The money he saved was used to do the much needed expansion of this road to ease traffic congestion for locals and tourists alike – a story which our guests appreciated hearing!

At Makumbusho our guests visited a range of homes which depicted the architectural styles of more than 160 ethnic tribes found in Tanzania. They also enjoyed a vibrant traditional dance, before moving on to the Slip Way craft market and beach resort. There they met local craft workers and purchased some of their unique, hand made products before finally relaxing with a chilled local beer looking out onto the Indian Ocean!

Everyone told us that they found our tour very insightful, and we enjoyed very much welcoming meeting such a lovely group of international guests to our country.
