Be one of the few travellers to experience our unique Kagera Basin Tour! We will be honoured to give you a true insight into the cultures and wildlife of our ancestral homeland.

The Kagera River rises in Burundi and flows into Lake Victoria. This new safari circuit includes the major tourist attractions of the Kagera basin including the majestic mountain gorillas of Rwanda and Uganda; the unique bird and wildlife of Rubondo Island National Park and the traditional communities of Lake Victoria.

You have the option to start this tour in Rwanda, Uganda or Tanzania. Please note, this itinerary may change depending on which airport you arrive into and time of year.

The 8 day tour price listed above is per person (USD) based on a minimum of 4 people in the group, including stays in mid range accommodation. We can also arrange budget and luxury stays to meet your requirements, plus incorporate any additional experience’s you require to make your journey even more memorable!

You also have the option to travel only by road, which will add an extra 3 Days to the tour. A budget tour by road starts at USD$3,500 per person. Special group rates are available on request.

PACKAGE DETAILS

DAY 1 - Arrive into Rwanda or Uganda and we will be waiting for you!

Land Kigali in Rwanda or Entebbe in Uganda where we will welcome you to Africa and take you to your hotel. After refreshments we will pick you up for an insightful City tour before leaving you to relax for the evening.

DAY 2 - Uganda – The Pearl of Africa

After breakfast we will take a spectacular drive into/across Uganda and onto Bwindi Impenetrable forest – a large primeval forest on the edge of the Great Rift Valley. You will overnight in a comfortable lodge where you will have your first briefing on the mountain gorilla trek which starts the next day.

DAY 3 - Gorilla Tracking & Chimpanzee Tour

After an early breakfast you will pick up a packed lunch and drive to the park headquarters (approx 90 minutes) for a 2nd briefing by an experienced ranger guide. You will then enter the forest to start this once in a life time gorilla trekking adventure. The beauty of this rain forest is spectacular and the thrill of spending time observing these gentle, endangered giants is an amazing and exciting experience to be long savoured. After a full and memorable day you will return to your hotel for a hearty dinner!

DAY 4 - Uganda to Tanzania’s Rubondo Island

You will travel by Air from Uganda to Rubondo, a unique Island Park on Lake Victoria. After a 20 minute boat ride across the lake you will drive through the beautiful forest to your accommodation. After lunch you will take a Lake Safari to enjoy the wonder of this diverse eco system – birds, crocodiles and hippo’s are in abundance!

DAY 5 - Rubondo Island National Park

Today is for rest and leisurely walks as you enjoy the tranquility of the Island (fishing on the lake can be arranged). In the evening you can relax around a campfire with a local beer before returning to your lake view lodge.

DAY 6 & 7 - Safari in Burigi-Chato National Park

Travel from Rubondo to the new Burigi-Chato National Park for world class Game viewing. Look forward to seeing elephants, giraffes, zebra, buffalo, lion, leopard and the illusive Cheetah!

DAY 8 - Tour End & Transfers

A final morning’s game drive will end your insightful into the beautiful Kagera Basin and its spectacular surroundings. You can now leave to go back home OR connect onto Mount Kilimanaro or Zanzibar to extend your holiday. We can arrange transfers and flights from Chato International or Mwanza airports.
